There is a growing industrial practice of using vapor phase corrosion inhibitor to supplement the performance of impressed current cathodic protection system in protection of aboveground storage tank bottoms against soil-side corrosion. This work aims to evaluate the compatibility of amine carboxylate vapor phase corrosion inhibitor on cathodic protection system performance & components.The work is composed of a series of lab experiments where differing concentrations of vapor phase corrosion inhibitor is added to 3.5% NaCl & freshwater solutions while monitoring the cathodic protection current requirement & polarization characteristics.The effects of the inhibitor’s chemistry on MMO anode performance cable insulation and reference electrodes will also be assessed.Keywords: Tank bottom Inhibitors cathodic polarization.
