Self-healing coatings for corrosion protection refer to those with the ability to sense the corrosive environment and to release preloaded inhibitors from the coating matrix by a controlled mode. In this work, SiO2 nanoparticle based polyelectrolyte nanocontainers were fabricated by the LbL method to store corrosion inhibitor BTA.
It is known that carbon steels in Fuel Grade Ethanol (FGE) has pitting corrosion and active path corrosion-type stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility. In the current work, susceptibility of pitting and SCC of two types of X52 grade carbon steel were investigated by immersion testing and Slow Strain Rate Testing (SSRT).
In this paper, failure analysis methodology will be applied to the principal mechanisms by which FBE coatings fail during long term service; with specific application to case studies involving blistering. The case studies apply standard failure analysis techniques to determine the primary causes and modes of failures.
