The Houston Ship Channel is a modern engineering feat. Brackish water. Chloride induced corrosion. Subsidence. Change in water levels and exposure conditions. These issues are explored in this paper reviewing methodologies and results of service life modeling from a recent multi-structure assessment by the authors.
All Zero-voltage ammeters, including the zero-resistance ammeter or the shunt-resistance ammeter, impose a small voltage between each of the electrodes and the coupling joint. An experiment studied the effect of the voltage imposed on the measured corrosion currents using a CMAS probe. Experimental results.
Graphene-based nanomaterials is of interest for electronic applications, but not well known in the biomedical and bio-implant fields. This paper highlights work done on utilizing graphene oxide coatings and dispersions as anti-microbial and protective barriers for preventing biocorrosion and biofilm growth.
Aging mechanisms - including general corrosion, pitting/crevice corrosion, galvanic corrosion, microbiologically influenced corrosion, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), creep, fatigue, thermal aging, radiation embrittlement, stress relaxation, and wear - based on literature and operating experience from nuclear and nonnuclear applications.
A polyamide 12 (PA12) material has been specifically engineered. After laboratory testing, a significant project was developed to install PA12 in a sour, multiphase, pipeline. Material qualification program is discussed. Performance of the liner in service and inspection of test coupons are described.
Chemically Bonded Phosphate Ceramic coating was investigated in various environments such as inland, beach and salt-fog exposure. After 8-month outdoor testing, the coating was evaluated by visual inspection, coating thickness, adhesion measurement and X-ray diffraction. Long term testing ensued, up to 24 months.
Cases where alkaline-carbonate stress corrosion cracking (ACSCC) occurred, including a cold wall Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) Unit regenerator and a mercaptan oxidation unit. This paper discusses work done to monitor on-going ACSCC risks through sour water sampling, chemical analysis, and ionic modeling.
Fitness for purpose of low temperature cure liquid-applied coating systems for pipeline maintenance and repair. Potential revisions to incorporate low temperature cure liquid-applied coating products into Table 1 of CSA Z245.30-14 will be presented along with commentary related to the deviations from the standard.
